PLEASE HELP ME!!! Lately when I browse the internet
through Explorer I recieve the following popup
message.......
"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for any inconvenience." I have spoke
to my computer manufacture and nothing seems to work. It
is only gotten worse with each passing day. Is this a
virus? I am stummped on this one. I recently went
to "Verizon DSL", previously I had dial-up and never
encountered this problem. Please Help point me in the
right direction to correct this problem. I am about to re-
format my entire hard drive to try and fix the problem. I
hope I dion't5 have to resort to that.
Thank you

I have had the same problem yesterday. I have found a solution in this
group:

From IE> Tools> Internet Options
or
Control Panel> Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable third party
browser extensions."
It really works

Mitch,

To test with: Disable third-party browser extensions in Internet
Explorer
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Internet Options.
3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. Under Browsing, clear the Enable third-party browser extensions
(requires restart) check box.
5. Restart Internet Explorer.

If this helps, read here for further troubleshooting:

Mike,
After disabling third party extensions Everthing seems to
be fine except for one thing. I just purchased a popup
program yesterday that rates high with "CDNET" it's
called "StopZilla". After disabling "Third party
extensions" I rebooted and a message apeared
that "StopZilla" cannot run without 3rd party extensions
enabled. Now my browsing is great but my popup progam
(stopzilla) does not work. Is there any way around this
problem Mike??? Or is this the price I have to pay for
uninterupetd browing? Geeezzz.. What a paradox...
:(

Mitch,

Now, use need to eliminate malware BHOs selectively. You may use Toolbarcop for this:

I'm not sure how your solution is working for anyone who is
claiming to have this problem, because if IE doesn't open,
control panel won't either cuz it is accessed through
explorer, which doesn't open.

Too smart? READ my response once again. One needs to access Inetcpl.cpl or Control Panel to disable 3rd party extensions.

Mitch,
Disabling Third party extensions is an emergency measure to allow IE to
work, so that users can read web pages and download some programs.

Remove the malware which caused the problem , then re-enable third party
extensions.
See:
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Note: CWShredder seems to be the most helpful program for this problem at
present.

Don

From Control Panel> Internet Options> Advanced uncheck "Enable third party
browser extensions." If that allows IE to run, then search for and remove
malware:
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Run CWShredder from http://www.merijn.org/downloads.html first. It's been
the most helpful with this problem. It may be the only cleanup program you
need this time. CWShredder is only about 125 KB so it could be downloaded
from another machine onto a floppy disk.

You should re-enable browser extensions after the cleanup.
