Hi,

I am trying to internet enable my Domain Controller. I have a wireless
router, which I can access from the Domain Controller in two possible ways:

1) an ethernet cable
2) a wireless USB adapter

in both cases I am able to receive an IP address from the wireless router's
DHCP, and I am successfully able to ping the wireless router. However, I am
unable to connect to the internet (e.g. ping www.yahoo.com). Why is this?
How do I internet enable the Domain Controller?

The DC has its own DHCP turned on as well, so maybe that's causing a
problem? But, I need the DC to act as a DHCP as well as the Wireless Router
needs to have its DHCP on.

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Asad

A few things:

1) If you have 2 DHCP services on the network, make sure they aren't
handing out the same IP addresses, can produce duplicates on the LAN and
cause issues
2) Give your DC a static address, don't use DHCP
3) The DC needs DNS entries
- If 2K/2K3 DC then it is most likely a DNS server for the LAN and
needs forwarders configured which point typically to your ISP DNS
servers to resolve Internet names (should see them in the wireless router)
- You could just leave in the root DNS servers (root hints) but thats
not very DNS/Internet traffic friendly

See reply in win2000.general. Please don't multipost - if you need to post
to multiple groups, it's best to crosspost instead, by posting a single
message to a handful of relevant groups (separate the NG names with commas)
so that everyone can follow the thread. Thanks :-)
