Hi All,
I have W2k Pro SP4, with all updates but Rollup 1 and everything after,
with 1 Gg memory. While logged in as a 'Power User' I find that my file
downloads are very slow. It takes about 4 hours to download a 7.5 Meg
file (yes, I use a dial-up ISP). W2k did not do this before.
I can boot in to Win98 SE and go to the same web site and download the
same file from the same server and get it completed in about 40 minutes.
W2k downloads are choppy (average .5K sec). Lots of inactive
downloading time, many, many resumes.
W98 SE downloads are smooth and constant (average 3.1K sec). I get a
resume once in a while, not like W2k.
Both systems are up to date with AV software and DAT's. Both systems
use the same firewall, web browser, gateway and download software. Both
have been scanned for malware and none has been found.
So, why does W2k download so poorly? Any ideas on what to look for in
hopes of fixing this problem.
Thanks for any help,
Charles
