Square 1
This all became apparent when I was testing Qwest's
download speed using www.bandwidthspeedtest.com website.

I noticed that my AMD 2.2gig pc on highspeed dsl was only
downloading at 10KB avg. I contacted qwest and
complained. they came out and proved that it was working
correct by using there laptop to download at about 67KB.
Well I was pretty embarrassed because i should have done
that first myself.

Anyways I looked at anything i had installed that might
remotely affect my download speed and removed it. didn't
help. tried another network card. still slow. I tried
reinstalling windows XP using the repair option. When
this didn't work. I was pretty pissed off. So I decided
to erase the windows directory and install a fresh clean
copy. That worked great. I got consistantly 540-580kb
downloads.

The test I use to see how fast my download is at
www.iacomm.com. there are 3 files on that window. I right
click on 10mg_file.class and choose save target as. and
then i watch the download speed and compare that to
laptop with XP home on wireless to my SMC router going at
67KB as well as a regular pc 800mhz with XP home going at
65KB, cabled to the same router.

BUT guess what. the slow downloads have started again
just 8 days after getting it working.

Here is what i have tried:
I used System restore to go back to 8 days ago----didn't
help
uninstalled "adgone;Word97;Kazaa;"---still didn't help
I've looked at my services running but not sure what
needs to be there or not.

I solved this once by installing xp from scratch but I'd
really like to know if there is a simpler solution to
fixing this slow download speed issue

btw I'm self employed as a Computer consultant, and have
been working with PC's since IBM DOS 1.0

but right now I feel like I've exhausted all my gray
matter in trying to solve this irritateing slow transfer
rate.

Please Please Please
Can anyone help me with this

Daniel

There might be a clue in the word KAZAA. My son has this
on my computer at home, and every time he uses it, I have
to reboot my computer or remove several programs running
to get ANYTHING to work at speed. Some of the programs
you might have to deactivate are kazaa, p2pnetworking,
asm, and a couple of others.

Try using msconfig to take all of that stuff out of the
startup cycle, reboot and check what is running, and then
start Kazaa and see what all it adds.
