Internet disconnecting

Over the last week my internet connection has been disconnecting itsself for
no known reason. Connecting is fine, then after a random time it disconnects
(sometimes 2 minutes, sometimes 10 etc).
I have tried disconnecting other phone lines to see if power surges is the
cause - but this did not help
The icons on the PC tell me that the P_C is stil connected, but this is not
so as pages will not load. I hear a 'click' from the modem which tells me
that it has disconnected once again.
I have an up to date virus checker and adware software in place, so no known
virus problem.
Any ideas please?

If you have AOL then this "feature" comes as standard (though according to
them it is NEVER their fault). If not, I apologise as I do not know why.
