There is a method to disable or enable internet service via software. I have
used it in the past but can't remember how. Can anyone Help?

Thanks for any help.

Perhaps in your firewall? Most can be set to block all internet
traffic.

In the LAN connectoid (Network applet in Control Panel), right-click and
select Status. Then click Properties. Enable the option to show the
tray icon. Then right-click on the tray icon to select Disable when you
want to immediately block all network access. That also means the tray
icon disappears which means you have to go into properties again to
enable this connection.

Alternatively, drag the LAN connectoid to a toolbar in the Windows
taskbar. You can than right-click on that shortcut to select Disable.
Later you can right-click on the shortcut icon again to select Enable.

The above kills all network access by your host, including accessing
other hosts in your intranet. If you have multiple hosts then you
should also have a router. Check your router to see if it has an
immediate disable/enable option. If so, you can then disable your
external (Internet) access but leave your intranet working.

A really simple way, using hardware, is to pull the phone jack,
at any convenient point, such as at the wall, or at the surge
suppressor, or at the router input. Or pull the ethernet plug
from the back of your machine.

This won't work, though, if you're using a laptop at Starbuck's. :)

Well most laptops with WiFi built in have some keyboard shortcut to disable
the adapter. Or if you're using a PCMCIA card you could always pull it out.
