connected and if I am in Safe Mode I can get a web page but running in normal
mode... it errors stating I am unable to find site. it is the same thing with
all sites... I cannot ping my server or my router.... it is only with this
one computer all other computers are running fine.

Try LSPFix: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

Have you got Zone Alarm? If so uncheck "Start with Windows" in options,
reboot, make sure it's not running, uninstall.

Give up with it, they broke it.

Disconnect from the Internet before uninstalling Zone Alarm and make sure
you have some firewall (not Norton or McAfee) running before you connect
again.

I am usig windows xp and I do not have zone alarm I have removed Norton and
that did not help.

Okay, the reason I mentioned ZA is because it looks a bit like a recent
update broke some systems and ZA id one of those programs you cannot
uninstall without first shutting it down and rebooting... if you do try it
will uninstall all the controls but not the actual firewall so you can then
do nothing about the settings. It is possible I suppose that Norton Internet
Security's firewall is the same. It's a good idea done that way because it
stops malicious software shutting the thing down, but it does not help the
unwary user :)

Did you remove Norton to try and fix the problem or for some other reason?
If you did can you use task manager to see if there are any bits of it still
running? Sorry I cannot help with names, don;t use it myself, but perhaps
someone could chip in with what to look for just in case.

It is also possible for some routers to do this, again it depends on the
router in use but has anything been changed on that recently? If you have
info on router settings you might check them just in case, MAC address
blocking is often an option.

Also check that you are using DHCP and that your router is acting as DHCP
server. If you don't know how to do these settings please ask. Basically you
may have an address conflict if your machine has a fixed IP address. Have
you had any power failures or reset the router and or machines just before
this problem started?

You mention other machines being fine so I have assumed you are reasonably
aware of the usual spyware and virus issues and have already looked for
spyware which is a HUGE source of internet problems these days. See the
links below if you haven't tried all the possibilities.

Getting infected with spyware these days is not a reflection on your
competence, it's a regular nuisance to everyone, which is why it's generally
the first place to look. Unfortunately there seems to be an endless list of
possibilities for your problem so please be patient with everyone - it is
impossible to tell which suggestions are relevant and which are way off the
mark at first. :)

Good luck,

Charlie

Important - LSP-Fix
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

Be aware that using either of these to actually remove spyware can result in
some programs refusing to work, in other words "Free" programs that you
downloaded on condition you accepted ads and so called "Research" may get
broken and you might want to uninstall them first. Some spyware actually
breaks Windows trying to force it's way in and you should arm yourself with
LSP-Fix before starting in case you lose internet connectivity.
