suddenly, i can not connect with the internet using my
optimum online broadband. They say nothing is wrong with
their equipment, but i rec an error message -- "the
following error occurred when renewing adapter Local Area
Connection: an operation was attempted on something that
is not a socket." I am now connected via phone line, but
would like to get my broadband connection back. Can
anyone help?

I would recommend reseting your tcp/ip settings. Now, I
have been using Windows XP for a while now and I don't
remember if Windows 2000 has the same following command
available, but if not look up what the command is for
Windows 2000. Anyways, try this command in the command
prompt:

netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

This should reset the tcp/ip settings to defaults. If
this command is not available in 2000, then try to
uninstall and then re-install the tcp/ip protocal under
network settings. Also try unistalling and re-installing
your network card.

Hope this helps...
