hi everyone... wondering whether anyone is having a problem like I am now
with Vista and knows a solution..

I create a new Internet COnnection using broadband.
everything works fine here.. I click on that internet connection, type in my
username and password and boom. it goes to verifying username and password..
now this is where the weird part happens, after verifying username and
password, it goes to "registering connection to Network " or something like
that, and it gets stuck there.. indefinitely..

the box just stays there, saying "registering to network" and never
dissapears, but the funny part is, i went and open my browser and it appears
that I am connected to the net.. that box just won't dissapear.. anyone have
that problem as i do? better yet, anyone know how to fix this small problem..?

Hi,
Can you provide me with the following logs to narrow down the issue:

From elevated command prompt
- Run netsh ras set tra * dis
- Delete all files in the %systemdrive%\windows\tracing folder
- Run netsh ras set tra * en
- Run your scenario (Connect to your broadband connection and wait for
sometime when 'registering to network' dialog
comes)
- Run netsh ras set tra * dis ; collect all the logs @
%systemdrive%\windows\tracing and send it.

Thanks,
Dinesh.

One of the reason it can happen is when the MSVPN client is connecting to
3rd party VPN server and the server initiates IPv6 negotiation but never
completes it. However as IPv4CP is negotiated the interface will be up and
user will be connect to internet. The workaround to this would be to disable
the IPv6 - to do this:
- Go to Network & Sharing Center
- Click 'Manage network connections' link on the left pane
- From 'Network Connections' select the Connectiod which you
have created [the one which gives 'registering to network' problem]
- Right click the connectiod and click properties
- Select the 'Networking Tab' and uncheck 'Internet Protocol
Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)' checkbox.

In case this doesnt solve your problem. please send the logs as advised
below.

Hope this helps,
Thanks,
Dinesh.
