internet connection through host computer

I connect to the internet on my dell through a netgear
wireless usb adapter (local area connection 4). I have
another computer connected to my dell through a 3com
integrated ethernet controller (local area connection) I
can share the printer hooked up to the other computer and
share files back and forth but I cannot access the
internet from the other computer. How do I set this up so
the other computer can use the dell's internet connection?

1. On the Dell, right click My Network Places and select Properties. Right
click Local Area Connection 4 and select Properties. Click the Sharing tab
and check the box for Enable Internet connection sharing.

2. If you active connections other than the Local Area Connection 4 and the
Local Area Connection for the 3 Com adapter, you may have to disable them.

3. Make sure that the Local Area Connection for the 3 Com on the Dell and
on the other machine are set to obtain an IP address automatically.

4. Reboot the Dell. Reboot the other machine.

Thanks Doug, I tried your instructions, the other
computer had one active connection that I disabled and
also had a network bridge that I disabled. When I enabled
internet sharing on local area connection 4 I was told the
lan adapter would be set to use IP address 192.168.0.1 and
to set the other computers to obtain IP address
automatically. I did this and then I got an error message
that said "Internet connection sharing cannot be enabled.
A LAN connection is already configured with the IP address
that is required for automatic IP addressing."

Any Ideas where to go from here.

Thanks to anyone with suggestions.

The 3 Com adapter must also be set to obtain an IP address automatically.
Also, if you have previously assigned 192.168.0.1 to an adapter which has
been removed, it may still be registered in Device Manager. Open Device
Manager, click View/Show Hidden Devices. Delete any adapters which are no
longer physically present.
