I have a problem with my internet connection sharing on
my client computer. Whenever I make a connection from
the client computer through a certain port (or ports) i
lose my internet connection.
My host computer connects to a comcast cable modem (no
router) and into a hub. The client computer connects to
the hub for access to the host computer and its
internet. Both computers run Windows XP and Norton
internet security. The Lan connection has the Firewall
option disabled.
I have not been able to find out which port or ports are
causing this.
When i try make the connection i stop getting internet
access. This most often happens when i update the server
list for counter strike or try to download videos from
kazaa. The shared internet connection and the lan
connection still exist and i can still retrieve files
from the host computer, but the internet doesnt.
I right click the connection and click "repair
connection" but it freezes for a minute then says "Failed
to renew ip address".
By disabling the lan connection and then re-enabling it
the internet is restored, until i try to use the port(s)
again.
The problem may reside in Norton Internet Security but i
believe its a windows xp problem. Ive tried going into
msconfig and setting every program to NOT run (including
norton) but the problem persisted.
Does anyone know what may be causing this problem?
