Hi, i'm struggling to think what could be wrong with this (my sister's) computer. It refuses to connect to MSN 7.0 and refuses to join the wireless home network; i am certain that there's nothing wrong with the hardware because i've tried using her wireless card on my pc and it's fine. It's not the nature of the wireless network either because it won't work on other people's networks either. The error code for MSN is 80072efd, and when i click on 'show other networked computers' it claims to not have permission. This computer is recognised as being on the workgroup by the other two that are on it. The other two computers share printers and everything happily.

So far I have:
1. Ran anti virus and anti spyware (i've installed and updated Norton, and also Spyware Doctor); nothing found.
2. Followed every step that i could see in every link that a google search for the MSN error threw up.
3. Reset internet explorer settings; cleared out temporary files and cookies.

It worked fine when she brought it home at easter, but when she went back to uni she had to go back to the uni's broadband, and i cannot remember what it was that had to be done to make the computer accept the wire connection. It might have had something to do with the TCP/IP stack but resetting that using the Microsoft's website instructions didn't come to anything. The problems with the wireless network have been since then.

To be honest i really don't know what I'm doing.

I've spent about six hours trying to work out what's wrong with this computer and would REALLY appreciate some help!! thanks so much for reading

Hi Elizabeth, just check the Norton settings are for an adult or teenager. If perchance they are set to child, MSN won't work. I know this because my youngest is not a user and the older ones sometimes try to get on MSN via her login. I have also had probs with MSN 7 and ended up uninstalling/reinstalling.

Anyway, just try what I have suggested and if it won't work, get back to us and I am sure we will have you up and running again in no time!!

Kind regards

Gabriella x

definately check your firewall settings, and check to see if MSN is alowed to connect to the network
