Every time I turn on the computer, network connection
window appears saying program is requestig connection to
internet address(tatalvelocity.com and memorymaker.com).
I have no program even remotely resembling those name. I
have searched entire drive to find these programs or
names but was unsucessful. Can anyone tell how to stop
these pop up window?

http://totalvelocity.com and http://memorymaker.com are websites. It seems
that you have some program(s) running at startup, or when starting IE
Explorer, that want to 'phone home'. Which program exactly provides the
warning? In any case, you should check, either with regedit or with the
system configuration utility msconfig, which programs run at startup. Also,
you may want to delete all cookies and you should run a program like spybot
or adware to check who else has invaded your computer.

Judy,

tweaking the registry is potentially dangerous and it's impossible to tell
you exactly how to proceed without actually knowing the machine setup, etc.,
etc.

However, I would recommend you delete all of your cookies (via Tools |
Internet Options in IE Explorer). In my opinion, it's good practice to do
that anyway every few days since the benefits of some cookies do not
outweigh the potential harm of the less benevolent ones. Then, in addition,
you should install a program like Spybot (can be downloaded from
http://download.com.com/3120-20-0.html?qt=spybot&tg=dl-2001) that will
analyze your registry and point out potential problems that you may then
flag for repairs. You should run Spybot every few days (and also update its
database of known culprits once a week or so).

Also, check which programs run at startup by looking at msconfig. If there
are programs whose purpose you do not know, put their names into a search
engine (Google) and usually you will find some explanations out there as to
what these program do and whether they are necessary or not. If they are not
necessary, get rid of them by unchecking them in the startup panel of
msconfig. (You should know, however, that there are some programs running at
startup that do not show up via msconfig. To find them you need to rummage
through the registry, but doing so --- see above...)

Hope this helps a bit. Good luck.
