this problem occurs with any web service IE, Outlook,
Netscape. its a recurring problem thats been put off by
using the system restore when this problem is reached.
pretty much nothing will go in or out of the above apps.
i have this problem with a modem and a network card so its
probably not hardware. off the network cable is a cable
modem. tech there said it was fine up to the cable
modem. i've tried troubleshooting with ping, traceroute,
and they work just beautifully. i suspect the protocol,
and have run "netsh diag gui" to trouble shoot the
connection at every point but with it only saying that the
computer passes. i have no firewall of anysort on this
machine. i have tried restarting the network connection
service but got a error message that says "Error 1053:
The service did not respond to the start or control
request in a timely fashion." i have a feeling that the
network connection snap in must be broken but have no idea
how to repair it. and since its XP home on this puter it
won't let me uninstall tcp/ip. the cables are ok, the
modem dials properly and gets connection. beyond that
nothing works besides icmp.
HELP!
best solution appreciated.
