Internet Connection Icon for Taskbar

Where do I find the 'internet', not the local area connection, icon for the
taskbar. Had it there once (shows connectivity), but took it off and now
can't find where it was. Tnx...

Click Start >> Control Panel >> Network Connections >> Locate the Internet
Connection you want and Right click it and select properties.
On the Connection Properties look down and you will find two check boxes,
please check them:
[ ] Show Icon in Notification Area when Connected
[ ] Notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity


Another; Right click the Start Button and select Properties then on the
taskbar and Start Menu Properties Under Taskbar Tab click on Customize Button
opposite this:
[ ] Hide inactive icons [ Customize...]
There Highlight the Local Area Network Icon and select from the drop down
list Always Show.

Not the 'local area network' icon (the one with the two monitors) that shows
the connection to the network. I'm looking for the icon that indicates
'internet' connectivity and advises whether the connection is acitve or not.

on XP, that icon depends on UPnP being turned on. while in the
Network window, on the left there should be a link (Show UPnP
icons/Hide UPnP icons) - can't remember the exact wording. Even when
it is enabled, you may find that it comes and goes..

This depends on how you get Internet access. If you have broadband
(high speed) Internet, then this is a network style access. This can
be configured two different ways:

1) With a router -- show only a LAN or WLAN icon
2) Directly connected to your PC -- ISP provided set up will add its
own icon.

Dial-up Internet will only show up when the connection is dialed.


If you are asking about a "similar" icon than the one Vista seems to
show, not available is XP.
