INTERNET CONNECTION DISABLING VIA ROUTER

I am running XP and an ME which both use my broad connection is
through a router (network cable links my PC's to router NOT USB). If I
do not access the internet after an hour or so I cannot connect xp to
the internet. IE/virus checker and everything else report there is no
connection available. I have to reboot to get my internet connection
back. The problem only seems to be with XP as I can connect with the
ME system no matter how long I leave it idle with no problem. It is
not a hardware problem as my XP system used to run ME and I could
always access the internet just like my second system.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

What model/make is your router? That would help narrow the problem.

The first thing to check on the XP box is power management on the
network adapter (NIC). Go to Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device
Manager. Expand the Network Devices category and find your NIC.
Double-click it to get its Properties. Click on the Power Management tab
and uncheck the box that says "Allow Windows to turn off this device
when not in use". If that works, great. If it doesn't, then please post
back with hardware details about the NIC and if this ever worked
correctly (and if it did, what changed).
