Internet Connection Dies Regularly

Ever since the updates on Friday (31 Aug), my internet connection on my Vista
machine dies after a few hours. If I restart, the connection will work again,
but will die after a few hours again.

I have three computers on my home network (one Vista (main) and two XP
(wireless)). Neither of the other two systems will lose connections.

I don't know if the updates had anything to do with it, but I had no
connection problems before then, and I have not installed any new programs.
 
I'm having identical issues, after running a fresh boot of build 5536.
For me it's not a few hours though... I think it's a security feature gone
bad.

When I leave the machine for about 20 or so minutes it disconnects the
network adapter, if I am continuosly using the computer, moving the mouse and
such, the network adapter stays on.

I hope someone can help me with this....
my Network Adapter is a Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet
or I just pop in RC1.

Me too- exactly as you describe. It does it every time, and requires a
system restart to correct. It seems definitely Vista related as my XP system
running on the same router bashes merrily on. It means that medium to large
size file downloads cannot happen. The fact that it happens so
systematically after the same time period of keyboard inactivity makes me
ask whether it is some power management or other control that need
adjusting.
 
For me, my connection dies like clockwork: 90 minutes after starting the
machine whether it’s being used or not. Everything else works fine, except
for any network capability. I’ve already shut off the property that allows
Windows to shut down the network adapter to save power. I’m testing it right
now. If it survives past 7:30 a.m. EDT, I’ll be happy.

Me too. Is it possible that the probable cause of this phenomenon is beyond
the ken of all the great minds on these boards ?
 
I've been playing with build 5536 for a week and didn't have this problem
until I changed the power management settings. I modified the 'Balanced'
plan, putting the system to sleep at a different interval, and changed to not
requiring a password on wakeup. After restoring the default settings for the
plan, the problem so far seems to have been fixed.
 
I have the same exact problem, I too use a Broadcom NetXtreme
Gigabit Controller, coupled with teh x64 RC1 Vista release, been
using this for a few days, and have had this problem almost
everyday, plus its also happeneing when I am browsing the net, it
just shuts off out of nowhere, chked the modem, everything is good
on that end, so its on the OS side, only thing is can't seem to
figure what the problem could be.

Well, I sort of - semi- solved the problem: I installed RC1. Connection
problem gone. I know this doesn't really help anyone else, save to say that
RC1 is pretty nice.
 
i founded a solution, or the problem. Just remove QoS Packet Schetuler
service from the network adapter properties, now my Vista is perfect!
