I am running WP. My computer is stand alone. I connect
via dial up(56K). I have the XP firewll enabled and I
have McAfee firewall. I have been running XP for about
4mths now with no problems. All of a sudden my dial up
connection wants to automatically dial constantly all by
itself. No one will be at the computer, but all of a
sudden I will hear the modem connecting. Once its
connected no other programs open up or anything. It just
sits there connected.

Has something got a hold of my computer? I have tried do
a Ctrl+Alt+delete to see what is running in the background
and I do not see anything out of the ordainary?

Any comments or suggestions welcome.
Thanks in advance

You have an Spyware on your computer.
It is very common. Today, people attach this thing to
programs you download from the Internet, and they are
install during the installation of the main program.
This spyware do, well, you get the idea. They spy on you,
and report your activities, to whatever person create them.
Of course, it is very difficult to detect this programs,
so I recomend you get Ad-Aware with all the actualization
and running thru your computer. I'm pretty sure, the
Adaware will give you something. If you can get SpyBoot,
then also run this one just to be sure.

I was running the exact same setup as you and ran into
the same problem. I found that it is something in the
mcafee firewall setup that is dialing your modem. I
can't recall exactlly what it was but it did correct the
problem. Check the firewall management setup.
