Trying to set up Intrenet Connection Sharing on Win 2000.
The PC is connected to a DSL modem. When I try to tick the
box "Enable Internet Connection Sharing for this
Connection", I get an error message saying the IP address
required is in use by another connection - but this is not
the case as far as I can see ?

Please help !

Hi Mick,

ICS sets the internal IP address of the host to 192.168.0.1 and if it is
use you will get this error. from a command prompt run "ipconfig /all" and
verifiy all of the host machine's IP addresses. Is the external NIC set to
192.168.0.1? Trying pinging 192.168.0.1, do you get a repsonse?

Thanks,

Hi Mick,

Did you set one of the ICS host's interfaces to use 192.168.0.1? The
internal interface on the ICS host should be configured to use DHCP.
If the ICS host is not using 192.168.0.1, you need to find the client that
is (some machine is since a ping is replied to). The clients on your
network should be set to get their IP address setting using DHCP also.

Marc,

OK, I found the NIC set to 192.128.0.1 and changed it to a
different address. Now when I do a ping it returns as
follows:

Ping statistics for 192.168.0.1:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

but when I try to enable network sharing I still get the
same error message even though there is nothing assigned
to 192.168.0.1 at present.

I've been using static IP addresses up till now and when I
changed to "Obtain IP addresses automatically" I lost all
the entire network connection - ie. couldent connect at
all to other PCs ?

What can I do now ?

Thanks,
