I just did a clean install of Windows 2000 (upgrading
from Windows 98) on the Dell Inspiron 7000 laptop. I
work my way through the Internet Connection Wizard to the
point where it asks for the name of the ISP. I enter
Triton, Triton home, Tritonhome, and a multiple of other
tries. Each time I get the answer "Triton" (or whatever
name I just tried), is not a valid name. The entry name
must contain at least one character that is not a space
and cannot begin with a period. Choose a different
name. I have made sure that the first character is not a
period.

I have the exact same problem and at the very least one other user here does too. That makes 3 of us so far. I have tried practically everything to fix this problem from using the emergency repair process to trying to uninstall internet explorer (I couldn't though - latest version on my system is installed and it won't let me uninstall (internet explorer is required for windows to run)) and have not been able to fix the problem. I have traced the problem I am pretty sure to the remote access connection manager RasMan and it's similarly named counterpart. The RasMan service on my system will not start. It gives me an access denied (error 5) error. When I try to set the service to logon as an administrator I get a error that says this service is trying to be run with another service involved that has a different account in the same process. So I can't run RasMan and I would appreciate it if someone could tell me how or otherwise fix my situation. My LAN connection works fine but who knows for how long I can go without a dial-up backup. Very annoying error I must say.
