Internet and Intranet access

Hi there,

Problem:
We need to give access to our employees so that they can connect from home
to local Intranet and internet through dial-up.
We have DNS , DHCP , ISA servers installed on our network. We also have
range of Internet IP (Internet physical IP) given by our link operators. In
addition we have a Cisco router too.

Now, if I enable RRas which uses DHCP to assign IP addresses, the connected
client gets one, and he can access any resouce on our intranet. Which is
good.In addition using Proxy client (ISA) remote client can access internet
too, like using browser it can access any website.
Problem is, when remote client use "remote connectivity Tool" like, Citrix
or PCAnywhere, and enter Internet IP , it returns error. Like no default
route or cannot connect ....
My Question is , is there any way to assign Two IP to remote client , like
we do on computer in local intranet connection? Or anything else. Currently
RRAS server and remote client is running on DHCP provided IP.

Config.
RRAS Server:
1.Win2k Server, with Modem and Network card(Ethernet card). connected to
Intranet.

Remote client
Win2k machine using Dial-ip.
NOTE: Sorry, if its like a very basic problem. I am not a network guru, and
to be very frank, our network Administrator has left the JOB. so i have
configure it.

Hello Shahjahan,

When a remote client establishes a dial up connection, by default it has
the "Use default gateway on remote network" option enabled.

This enables the client to be able to access all the machines on a remote
network
only via the default gateway on the remote network.
This is also in a way a secure configuration.

After establishing the dial-up connection, if you want to be able to access
an
address on the internet going via your ISA Server and using the ISA Firewall
Client
then you will need to make sure that the ISA Server is properly configured
with
the Site and Content Rule and Protocol Rule to allow that.

Can the same client when connected on your LAN access the Internet IP using
PCAnywhere???

Hi Koduri,

First, thanks for your reply.

As far as the Intranet is concern all is working fine for dial-up client,
they can access any machine of intranet, acces ISA server, can browse using
ISA server.

YES, the same client when connected using dial-up and accessing Intranet
resources would like to use Internet IP, like PCAnywhere.

One wierd way i used to solve this problem, is,

1. Using public IP defined on remote client , connects to RRAS. This
will allow it to access internet. So that they can use PCAnywhere or other
remote desktop tools that require internet IP on client.

2. Using VPN create an another connection with RRAS , using DHCP to
assign Intranet IP. This will let remote client to access INTRANET
resources, but use PCAnywhere.

3. Now if remote client want to use PCAnywhere, they requires to disable
VPN, and if they want to use Intranet resource, they will enable VPN. (looks
like an idiot implementation).
