1) To get Internet capability at the 'house on the shore", you need to
discuss that with those you are getting the house from. Should be as simple
as either connecting to their wireless router (with provided instructions -
if any) or plugging into the wall with your ethernet cable and getting an IP
and surfing the web.

2) To connect back to your home machine - you need to have Windows XP
Professional or a superset version (Home Edition will NOT work without third
party solutions) installed on the home machine, users with the necessary
rights and passwords set on the machine, the proper ports opened through any
software firewalls, the proper ports forwarded on any Cable Modem/DSL router
you may be using and then you need to know your external IP address. Then
you can use remote desktop client to connect up.

Thank you Shenan,
There is no wireless access router but do you think that IP/DNS would
automatically work if I plug in the ethernet cable from the house wall (which
carries the verizon dsl line) to my laptop? Does this make any sense?
