I apologise in advance for this query being a bit vague but here goes.
I have a desktop machine connected to the internet via a router. I also
have a laptop linked wirelessly to this set-up. This worked well until a
month ago when I took my laptop on holiday. Using a wi-fi link, I started
the machine and it connected to my ISP and I managed to download some
emails. Next time I tried to connect, however it gave a "network timeout"
message.
When I got home I discovered I could connect to the internet using IE7 but
not using Firefox or Opera. Ihave reinstalled both of these but no changeI
re-set up the wirless network, but still get "Network Timeout" I use AVG 8
on the laptop and have searched everywhere for a possible firewall blockage
but can't find anything (not helped by my lack of technical knowledge!)
One thing I have noticed is that in the past when I installed some new
programs I got a pop-up dialog box saying that such-and -such a program was
attempting to connect to the internet when I could tick "allow", but I
don't see this at all now and feel there's a connection (no pun intended!)
The desktop machine still behaves as it always has.
I just feel that, as so often in computing, a simple setting somewhere might
cure all this
Any clues?
Regards and thanks in advance
