Internet access problem

I recently lost the ability to access the internet. I can
make the initial connections to Earthlink or AOL but can't
reach any content via the internet and can't reach the
mail servers. I have repaired the OS and reloaded the ISP
software and IE (version 6). Below are some enties in the
log file:

Description:
IRIP was unable to create a socket for address
63.52.59.148. The data is the error
code. Event Type: Warning

Description:
Unable to contact a DHCP server. The Automatic Private IP
Address 169.254.40.249 will be assigned to dial-in
clients. Clients may be unable to access resources on the
network.

IPX routing requires internal network number for correct
operation. Please set it in IPX transport properties of

name-resolution servers from the registry. The data is the
error code.

Any suggestions for resolving the problem. Earthlink and
AOL support could not help although they tried.
 
looks like your not getting an IP from DHCP. Start their first. Check the
DHCP server. Add a static IP to your client and verify you can ping the
DHCP server and/or other hosts on your lan. Once you feel good about that,
enable dhcp again and see if you get an IP. If not, the server is not
handing out IPs, or you have some network issue or some issue on the local
machine.

I'm working on a single machine with dialup connection to
the internet. I believe there has been some form of
corruption but repairing the operating system (Windows
2000 Professional) does not resolve the problem.
