Internet Access after connected to a W2K VPN

Luiz Guilherme

hi,

I successfuly setup a Windows 2000 VPN server on my
client's office and created the Conectoid that is working
just fine on my home Windows 2000 Pro machine.

I access the Server via internet connection, but, once
connected to the VPN, my Internet stops. I mean, the VPN
works fine, but I can't browse. When I disconnect, the
Internet work again.

I tried to check the connection properties to see if it
change my DNS settings or something, but the only settings
availiable are the "connection retries" and "idle time
before disconnecting".

Any tips? It makes me hate to connect the VPN, cause my e-
mule stop working... :( ^_^

Luiz,

You only need to modify the default gateway option for you VPN connection. Go to the properties of your VPN, then select "Network" tab, then go to the TCP/IP properties, Advanced and clear "Use default gateway from remote network". If you leave this option checked, the VPN connection creates a route 0.0.0.0 pointing to the IP obtained from the VPN Server, so this cuts your internet off. If you still want to access the internet from your VPN connection (using the proxy server from your company for security reasons) you would have to configure additional settings for your internet explorer, so it could use any proxy server from the internal network of your company. But I guess it is not the case. Simply clearing that option will make you work perfectly.

I hope this helps you,
