I got a problem with the computer. I was up til 130 installing internet 7,
and it was at the part for the removing microsft malicious removal tool Then
i turned off my computer cause it was getting to late.(manually). Now my
computer just runs like crud. Would you happen to know what i should do.
Listed below is a list of things that i have done to it

Checkdisk
Disk Defragmenter
Disk Cleanup
Virus Scan

It just takes forever to start up now.

Riley, if you have System Restore Active I would go back to a date before
Installing IE7. Just go to Start>All Programs>
Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. Just follow the instructions.

Uninstall IE 7 and roll back to version 6. Does it fix your issue. If it does

Then read the following and retry your install of IE7 making sure that your AV is off and not doing anything else on the system while installing.

Required reading IMHO before installing IE7:

[And I strongly recommend using

not Automatic/Windows Update.]

Did you turn off the PC in the middle of the IE7 installation (not a good
idea, you should let it finish whatever it was doing), or was it a case of
the installation comleting and coming up with "you must reboot.....", but
decided to do a shut down instead, and then restart the next time you use
the PC....? That shouldn't harm it, as far as the program is concerned, I
would think it'd treat it as a "reboot" anyway.

OR..... did you simply shut off the PC without exiting Windows correctly?
That action could cause corruption of the O/S or as you've discovered,
degraded performance.

Try a system restore, or boot using the "Last known good configuration"
option from the F8 start up menu when the PC boots (keep pressing F8 from
the minute the computer powers up, until you see the Start Up menu and the
options listed (white text on a black screen).

I think that it is just because of McAfee. When you turn off the computer
manually, can you burn up some memory. I have 128MB of Mem, and its showing
as 13MB. I think that I may have burned up some memory. Does anybody know
if the USB Flash drives that double as RAM will work on XP SP2

128MB of memory won't support Windows XP

I know it won't. but i can't get inside my computer, so i need to know if
the USB Flash drives that double as RAM would work on XP. They said that
they would work on Vista, but i have XP.

No that won't work at all.

No.

Exactly where do you see this number.

I think that I may have burned up some memory.

Highly unlikely.

Does anybody know

What flash drives that double as RAM?

128MB of memory won't support Windows XP

Not at all true. Performance will almost certainly be poor of you do
much more than play solitaire, but 128MB will work just fine.

I know it won't.

Yes, it will.

but i can't get inside my computer,

Why not?

so i need to know if
the USB Flash drives that double as RAM would work on XP. They said that

They don't really double as RAM even in Vista, but that functionality
doesn't exist at all in XP.

Performance will be so poor it is hardly worth saying it will work.

Although I certainly agree that performance will be very poor, that's
an entirely different statement from saying it won't work. Accuracy
*is* important.

In this particular case, you raise the hopes of someone with XP and only 128
megs of memory and probably a 200 MHz clock. They will only be disgusted
later and give up..

Not if you explicitly say performance will be poor with so little, as
I did.

You say that your system has only 128MB of RAM and that you can't get inside
the computer. I have a couple of questions.
1) Why was XP installed on this system and how long ago?
2) Was XP actually running well at one time in the past or were you having
trouble with it in the past?
3) Why did you decide to install IE7?
4) Can you boot into SafeMode? If so try uninstalling IE7 from Control
Panel->Add and Remove Programs from SafeMode.
5) What is stopping you from getting inside the computer?

6)128MB of RAM is not very much RAM and tends to come on old systems. How
old is your system? Are you thinking of upgrading your system?

hey. sry i haven't been on for a while. i got this computer from my dad
work, and on the side it has that sticker on that says it made for windows
2000. I don't know how long ago it was installed. it was running fine in
the past, but my McAfee is making it slow. i got it back up, but is still
going slow. I wanted to install ie7 cause i heard that its better than 6. I
figured out how to get into my computer. I am going to get a 256mb ram for
it. That is all that i could tell you. I really appriciate you guys helping
me.
