My Windows 2000 Pro PC has started acting wierd recently. It's
connected to a DSL service.

Oftentimes when I request a web page I get the "The page cannot be
displayed" screen in IE. This is for known good websites, like Google
for instance. The equivalent also happens with Mozilla Firefox.
Whatsmore Outlook Express frequently cannot connect to my my incoming
and outgoing mail server. And the same thing happens with Mozilla
Thunderbird for Usenet.

If I retry any connections over the internet it usually works after one
or two tries.

The only program running which might be related is ZoneAlarm, but this
has always worked well in the past. And I've got all the latest
Microsoft Update patches.

On this same machine I have Windows 2000 Server in a different
partition. It works just fine, no problems. So there's something wrong
with my Windows 2000 Pro.

Does anyone have suggestions on what might be wrong, or how to track
this problem down? Thanks for your help.

I checked for that with Adaware. I also scanned for viruses with
Norton, which in fact found a couple. I'm clean now. The same problem
still exists.

Everything seems to be working okay now. I didn't do a darn thing. The
only thing I can figure is that my ISP's DNS server had problems.
