Internal Firewire Connection

Hi,

I have an Asus P4P800 which has two firewire connecitons; one on the
back panel and one internal one. I want to connect the internal one to
the front panel on my case. However, the case has a 'hole' ready for a
firewire port to be put in and a couple of screw-holes ready to take
the port, but without the port itself or any cabling. Can someone tell
me where in the UK I could order such a port as I've searched in vain.
I know you can get front panel plates with firewire, usb, mic/ear
etc., but I don't really need all this - just the bit that goes behind
the hole and the cable.

Excuse any odd terminology - I'm new to this PC building stuff.

HI, wish I knew th answer too ....... have tried at local computer fair &
the 'cable specialist' there has never seen one either. May have to
consider a normal Firewaire cable & chopping end off. JonMaC

Did you try the case manufacturer.

You could start with this part:

A dimensional drawing of the business end is here:

Depending on the motherboard, you may need to "repackage" the
wires on the end, into a different plastic "shroud". They can
be purchased on this page. The wires can be pulled out of the
2x5 by depressing a tab that holds each pin in the shroud.

You should contact Frontx, to see if there are any known
issues with connecting your motherboard in this way. Adapting
an Asus adapter (the PCI plate kind) would be guaranteed to
work electrically by Asus.

I got the perfect Firewire cable with my Gigabyte Motherboard (since
dead). Plus, I got a connector for the rear, a small slot monster.

The MB I had from Gigabyte was fully equipped, I'll say that for them,
they don't cheap out on all the goodies.

Just curious - I have a P4P800 - I don't think I have Firewire on this
MB. I wasn't in need of it, cause all my devices are USB2, so wanted
to simplify things.

I mean my last MB, the dead one, was fully loaded with all kinds of
stuff I'll never use.

I'll never buy another Gigabyte product. Asus rules.
