Removing the side panel is often just a matter of how you hold your tongue!

If you know the exact model number of your computer, I might be able to find specific proceedures. I found this http://support.gateway.com/s/CASES/3501957/3501957faq4.shtml for Gateway computers and it is very typical of standard cases. Yours may have 2 or 3 screws to remove - not all are thumb screws. Note, it is the left side panel, as your are standing in front of the PC, that you need to remove.

Make sure you down your system, and UNPLUG it before adding or removing any hardware or internal connections. Just shutting down the PC is not enough as ATX form factor (the "Standards" that motherboards, cases, and power supplies) calls for +5Vsb standby voltages to be applied to the motherboard whenever the power cord is attached and the Master Power Switch on the power supply (most do NOT have one) is turned on.

Have a vacuum cleaner and soft paint brush handy to clean out the system of dust and dirt - paying special attention to the fans and heatsinks.

I am afraid I can't find anything on Ei computers - is that a local brand?

Did you look at the pictures in the link I provided earlier? It should be similar to yours.

on the side is there a join between the side and the top ? if there isn't you'll probably need to take off both sides and the top as one piece, there should be 6 screws to undo

note inly do the ones on the very edge, some of the inner ones hold the PSU and if it falls out, bye bye computer

thanks for all of the help guys but I finally got it opened, I had to slide the left hand part of the caseing to get into the heart of the computer,

Thanks all again, for the info it was a big help, im just gald I didnt get a claw hammer to it, lol

I agree no hammer needed. But now that you got the door off, it looks like it should have been soo much easier right?

Good! Hope the Gateway link was of help.

Now make sure it is all clean and all the fans spin freely before you button it back up. Also, while you are in there, look at the label on the power supply and note the total wattage for future reference. Expect to have to replace it if you add or upgrade any more hardware - By adding the DVD drive, you may already be pushing the limits.

Actually guys When I got the door off I thought it would be pretty straight forward, but I guessed wrong,

To attach the DVD writer is very simple but I want to attach the writer below my CD Rom drive, but when I opened the spring Port I came across a metal cover that is strongley secured and thus wont let me put the new writer into the computer,

Im guessing that it can be attached below the CD Drive but I need to get this metal plate off first,

Any suggestions?

I have allready got a soldering iron, hammer and screw driver to it and it isnt comming out,

Any Help?

hit the bottom edge of the piece of metal in the corner with something hard, like the nose of a pair of pliers, it should twist horizontally and you should be able to bend it backwards and forwards till the metal breaks

Thanks for all the help guys, I finially got it installed with a bit of force,

Next time I think I will buy a USB one instead, much eaiser to set up,
