i have installed a western digital internal disk drive which already has a
seagate drive. the computer does not recognise it. Op system is xp sp2. Any
ideas?
Thanks

westwardho,
1. Did you enter the PC's BIOS, and make sure that the new HDD is recognized?
You may need to set the controller to AUTO/Enable/ON.
2. Once the HDD is recognized, now in Windows:
Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Computer Management> Scroll to Disk
Management> Find the new Drive>
Create Partition(s)> Format new partition(s).

Are these IDE drives (as opposed to SATA)? If yes, check the jumpering on
the Western Digital. The correct jumpering will usually be shown on the
drive's label or you can get it from Western Digital's support site.

Did you set the jumpers properly (if appropriate - SATA does not have
jumpers, and you don't say the drive type), and did you intitialize the
disk?

Also, does the drive appear in the BIOS? If it doesn't, XP won't either.

So, boot only into the BIOS until you are sure that it does appear properly.
