Simple problem really,

My Dell Inspiron 6000 has a built in cd-rom drive, as do many other laptops.
Mine simply refuses to open. I press the button, the green light flashes, but
nothing happens. Nothing is in there now, so it is not jammed as far as I am
concerned. I hope someone knows what I am talking about, and may talk me
through it. I understand my explanation is general, but I can provide more
information if asked...

I do ask though not to reply through this site for I will not have time to
come back on and check it. I would rather have a reply e-mailed to me at

(e-mail address removed)

Thank you!

Sorry, no free tech support by email. This is a newsgroup and questions
asked here are answered here. Now that you've posted your unmunged email
address you can expect to get even more spam. See this for an explanation:

Shut down the machine and restart it cold. As it is restarting (before
the operating system is loaded), try and open the optical drive. If it
still won't open, this is a hardware problem. Call Dell tech support for
repair/replacement.
