Like many others, I too am having difficulties trouble-shooting my
intermittent wireless internet on my Acer 5100-5778 laptop purchased 6 days
ago (wired access to laptop works fine; wired access to PC running Windows XP
works fine; last Gateway MX6422 laptop running Windows Media wired and
wireless worked fine and had 802.11g wireless protocol). The preceding list
includes all computers linked to router; 1 PC wired, 1 laptop using wireless
(Ethernet cable is switched from PC to laptop when wired service is needed on
laptop). I’m going to try to keep this as short as possible giving as many
details as I know about my equipment and what I’ve tried thus far (not very
technically savvy, so please bear with me)…
Equipment:
•WRT54G v.2 Wireless-G Broadband Linksys router and Linksys cable modem
•Acer 5100-5778 laptop/OS: Windows Vista Home Premium
•Atheros AR5007G driver (for wireless) updated to 7.3.1.125
•Realtek (??) driver (for wired) updated to 6.103.126.2007
•Tech specs on Acer say wireless protocol: 802.11b and 802.11g
Attempts:
•Firmware is updated to latest version (4.21.2)
•Modem and Router reset (and network creation wizard re-run)
•From command prompt (admin), ipconfig/flushdns completed before one of the
resets.
•Firewall disabled; proxy settings disabled
•Unchecked TCP/iPv6 and QoS Packet Schedule on wireless internet settings
•Factory defaults reset
•MAC registered with ISP (Cox Communications)
•MAC clone
•WPA-personal (TKIS)
•SSID: “xxx wirelessâ€
•Beacon: 50; Frag: 2306; RTS: 2306; MTU: 1300
•Channel: 11
•Disabled uPnP
•Mixed network mode
•From Command Prompt, successfully pinged; 192.168.1.1; DNS#; yahoo.com
•From Command Prompt, nslookup microsoft.com successful
•From Command Prompt, ipconfig/displaydns (came back with ‘success’ message)
•From Command Prompt, ipconfig/all, wireless and Ethernet headings have MAC;
IPv4: 192.168.1.102(preferred); mask: 255.255.255.0; default gateway:
192.168.1.1; DNS#s
Notes:
•Static IP and DNS were setup after one of the modem/router resets with a
few of the above attempts tried. These #s were tried with outputs from cmd
versus outputs from status tab on http://192.168.1.1. However, they
currently are not setup.
•Router MAC matches Ethernet LAN MAC (these are both different from the MAC
registered with Cox from bottom of modem and different from the Wireless MAC
from cmd)
•SSID and WPA router settings match wireless network settings
•I cannot successfully ping linksys.com even when successful at other websites
•From http://192.168.1.1. >>status tab>>router tab show: IP 68.109.132.139;
mask 255.255.248.0; gateway 68.109.128.1;**DNS #s match the DNS #s produced
from cmd ipconfig/all
PLEASE HELP!!!! I WANT TO CRY AND PULL OUT ALL MY HAIR!!!
Thanks in advance
