Intermittent network connection

I recently bought a new motherboard (MSI P35 Neo-F) and processor
(Intel Core2 6750) to my computer and got network connection problems
after that. I did reinstall XP Pro and am connected through the
computer's LAN-port to a Telewell ADSL-modem/router.

The problem is that the internet connection is broken now and then,
with 5..30 minutes intervals, especially when not using it for a
while. It is always immedetially restored when I do a Local Area
Connetion Repair.

The funny thing is that if I have two IE7-windows open, one of them
might work and the other gives the 'Cannot display page'-error. Also
Outlook might work and IE7 not, or the other way around so that I can
browse with IE7 but Outlook can't connect to the mail server. And as I
said, everything always gets restored by doing a Repair.

The network did work perfectly before the motherboad update and XP
reinstallation. Also my wifes computer that is connected through the
same ADSL-modem works fine.

I have tried the network diagnostic tool I found in Microsoft's
KB326155, but that did not help.

Does anybody have an idea where to start looking (or do I have to try
a new installation of XP again)?

Have you considered to add a separate PCI Ethernet network adapter?
It could be a "defective" LAN port on the motherboard.

Can it be due to a defective port if one IE-window loses connection
but another stays connected?

I yesterday installed a PCI network card in my computer and connected
to the router through that, but it did not help, IE still now and then
looses the connection to the net ("Cannot display page") and it can
also happen that one IE window works but another not. Network/Repair
always restores the connection.

Any other ideas?

What type of anti-virus system have you installed and are using on
this system? Some anti-virus system tend to be "too secure."

I am using F-Secure Client Security v7, exactly the same as I used
before this problem occured. I also have a laptop with the same AV
running on the same modem/router, and that is working fine. I also
have tried to reinstall F-Secure once, but it didn't help.

I do not know anything about how networking works inside XP, but is it
possible that some background service, eg. some software's update
checker, can 'steal' an open connection from IE or Outlook, and how to
find it if so?

I seem to have solved the problem myself. As I wrote in the original
post, I am connected to the net through a Telewell TW-EA715 ADSL-modem/
switch, and I have had the problem-computer connected to one of it's
LAN-ports. I also have a Buffalo AirStation WAN/router connected to
one of the Telewell's LAN-ports, and because none of the computers
connected through the WAN had any problems, I tried to connect the
problem-computer to a LAN-port in the Buffalo-router instead, and
everything works fine!

So it seems that the problem is with the Telewell modem/switch, but,
funnily enough, only when the computer is connected directly to it,
when it is connected through the second switch, everything works fine.
