I finally thought I solved all my network problems out and now I find that I
have intermittent internet connection on my Vista machine. Sometimes it
connects and sometimes I have to reboot or even shut down and then it works
again. Please help!!!

Same here. Just "upgraded" to Home Premium. Managed to get vista talking to
xp machines but like you every now and again my internet connection fails on
the vista machine. Diagnostics tells me it's an ISP problem but it isn't
because my other computers can still connect fine. This needs urgent
attention.

Have you re-set the power management? These posts may help,

after hibernate it can't find my wireless network

Hi Robert,
Yes I have followed the advice given. I seem to be losing the IP address
during hibernation, but only after several minutes hibernating!.
Thanks for your support.

Yes, my computer never goes to sleep now, but the problem still exists. Now
it seems to either work on start up or not on my Vista machine. When I run
the diagnose the problem it says it can ping the remote server and the
problem is w/ a firewall (query server?)

I'm having a similar problem -- my network connection keeps going down about
every 10-30 minutes. Usually it’s down for only 10-20 seconds. If I look at
the LAN Connection status, it doesn’t notice the drop. However, my
applications (SSH, Outlook, IE, Trillian, network drive) lose the connection
(although not all of them lose the connection each time).

I'm running Vista Business on a Dell Dimension 4600 with an Intel Pro/100 VE
network adapter. I’ve tried updating my network drivers to the Vista version
and turning off IPV6, all the sharing/discovery stuff, power management
options, etc. I even tried using a totally different network card for a
little while, but that had the same problem.

I have noticed a similar problem on my PC. Happened immediately after I
upgraded to Vista.
I am running Vista Business and accessing internet via Motorola Cable Modem.

Connection is apparently up, but apps stop responding. This can happen as
frequent as 10-30 minutes.

I have noticed in the system logs that "DHCP-Client started", everytime
connection breaks, although there is no evidence of the service crashing.

I usually have to restart cable modem to have the problem fixed.

In your case blazzik, just like me you have 2 network cards.

My Scenario...
Connection A = Internet
Connection B = Home Network

Everytime I boot my system, Internet doesn't work. The work around I found
was to disable connection B, give Vista enough time to detect the change and
to associate connection A as "Local and Internet". Once this is completed, I
re-enable connection B and everything is fine.

I've researched Windows and they have the same work around. I know it is
dissapointing. Always having to do this gets annoying. MS should work on a
way to do something like "bind" connection A (or whatever the connection you
are running your internet through) and set it to always be "Local and
Internet". This way it doesn't drop out anymore.

Hope people with this problem, vote for this fix...

You are not alone! I have experienced a similar scenario. I especially
notice my Internet connection stopping after waking from sleep mode.
Hibernation 9/10 works fine and no problem with Internet connection going
away.

This morning, I woke up, took the system out of sleep mode and sure enough,
no Internet. After several reboots along with disabling the "firewall", the
connection returned. I dunno.

GR.

I bought a machine from Dell with Vista Ultimate. I then installed
virtual computer and xp professional. Now although I maintain a
strong internet connection in vista, my connection in xp is
intermmmitent. From reading the postings on the web this seems to be
a significant problem with vista.

same problem.

Basically, my network connection will drop sometimes. I try to ping the DNS
server and get and error code 1231. Resetting the DSL modem or computer will
sometimes bring the connection back and the ping will start coming back at
around 10ms then drop again a few seconds later.

As a fix, I have a laptop sitting nearby with XP Professional running. If I
plug the DSL modem into the laptop and reset the modem then the ping to the
DNS server will return and stay. Then plugging the DSL modem back into the
Vista machine will restore the connection just like nothing was ever wrong.

I've checked network settings between both computers and they match, and
then there is all the extra settings on my Vista machine. I can repeat the
network drop every single time by logging into Everquest II and opening all
the bags in my bank inventory at once. About 5% of the items in the bags will
load then the connection drops. Almost every single time. The only time it
will not is right after I call AT&T and have them run a line test, which will
usually restore a crashed connection as well.

AMD X2 5600+
Gigabyte GA-M59SLI-S5 (using onboard network)
2GB OCZ PC6400 DDR2
BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC
Vista Home Premium 64-bit

World of Warcraft currently does the same thing after every patch. Will only
stop when I re-install. all sharing, power management, etc is off. AT&T tech
was here the other day and couldn't figure out what was going on either.

truly annoying.

My problem ended up being fixed by the dsl company replacing my Speedstream
4100 dsl modem with a 2Wire modem. Everything else from RTU change, card
change in RTU and router changed helped in ways that only made it SEEM like
progress.

I guess some modems just don't play well at some locations. The symptoms are
so freaking misleading.. almost 2 months of troubleshooting to fix that
problem. Hope it helps!

I also have a similar problem, Have got Home Premium installed with 2 network
cards, Internet (public) and Local (private)

Browsing and network completely fine on my Internet connection, I stream
video and everything just fine
On my Local Connection, everything used to work fine but now I struggle with
everything, my PC sitting next to it, sometimes works sometimes doesn't, very
intermittent, web browsing the same, same with streaming, what figures?
Even tried upgrading the memory, no luck, rembooting makes no difference.

Any answers to this?
I'm going to try the 2 new updates for performance and reliability to see if
that helps.

Go to Device Manager, Network Adapters, if you have NVIDIA nForce Networking
Controller, right click for properties, select Power Management and disable
power managment, then if you have a personal firewall (I have Norton) disable
it. By the way, if you know which setting in Norton Personal Firewall to
configure to "allow" so that this works, let me know! I was getting only
limited access even though connection was fine signal was strong!

Eventually found the problem, it's down to ICS itself.

For now I've disabled sharing my internet connection as with it on, you just
can not access the PC over the second connection, making ICS worse that
useless at the moment.

hopefully SP 1 will address this problem, but for now the best i can say is
dont Share you internet connection if you need to access your pc over the
network from other machines.

Here's hoping
