phil

i have just installed a new 160gb hardrive as my current
40gb is not big enough.
The problem i have is that i am loading one hours worth of
film from my mini dv sony trv33 camcorder to my new
hardrive into movie maker but it is completely
distorted,and unwatchable.
I can download onto my old drive with no problems ,however
because of a lack of space on it after i have edited the
film and try to sent back to my camcorder in (dv-avi
format) using a firewire connection it states there is not
enough room on the drive ,hence i bought the bigger drive
which only distorts the film .
I am a novice at all this but would appreciate any help.
thanks phil.

a) Are the drives connected via a 40 wire or 80 wire IDE cable to the IDE
port on the motherboard?

b) What speed is the new drive? ATA133, 100, etc etc

c) I'm presuming it's formatted NTFS, since you talk about capturing 1 hour
of footage which should be about 12gb in DV-AVI format. Am I correct?

I have no problem capturing to either of my three hard drives (one
partitioned into two, so it appears I have four hard drives on the PC and
one DVD burner), so it's not the different drive that is causing the
problem... or shouldn't be providing they are both set up correctly.

Open MovieMaker and from the Toolbar, select Tools, Options..... in the
General tab, ensure you set the Temporary Storage to E:\ (or whatever your
new hard drive is called). This will get rid of the not enough space
warning - you're probably still using C:\ where there isn't enough space!
