Three computers: One Vista Home Premium with printer (a), one XP Home SP2
with printer (b), and one XP Home SP2 - no printer (c).
Thus, Two printers, and certain file sharing is wanted among all three.
Before Vista machine networking was fine both 'b' and 'c' could share
assigned files and printers.
'B' and 'c' have Avast AV and Comodo appropriately turned off during
networking set up.
'A' has Avast and NO Comodo: using Microsoft Defender and Windows Vista
Firewall.
"A" is ethernet/ hard wired to wireless modem, and "b" and "c" are wireless.
Originally, "a' could print to 'c' but not 'b'.
All three ping fine. Figured out how to get Vista (a) networked --
http://winhlp.com/node/200 and thus Vista networking connected to 'b' to
print but have no access to shared files on 'b' yet.
Thus 'b' can print via 'a',
and 'c' can print via 'a'.
However:
'B' CAN see files on 'a' and 'c'.
C can see files on 'b'.
'B' and 'c' can see files on 'a'.
Please be clear with very specific instructions so I can have file sharing
in Vista from B.
Yet I can see 'c' files in Vista 'a';
network and sharing folder.
But no 'b' files, yet.
All I get is access denied with a message that reads:
"\\STEPH is not accessible. you might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if
you have access permissions. ACCESS DENIED."
'b' and 'c' both have the Microsoft update KB922120 to link all computers.
(Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder (KB922120).
Go figure!.
Cordially,
Robert
