Starting yesterday, my IE browser stopped working. When I launch the browser, I get a DNS error. All other internet apps work (AIM, etc)
Heres the interesting part. I enabled the address toolbar and tried to connect to my company's FTP site with the browser..it worked. Then leaving the ftp site by typing a web address in the address space, the browser works. If I launch another browser session, it wont work. If I launch the FTP site from any shortcut, it wont work. The only way that I can get the browser to work is to use the "ftp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" from the address toolbar, then use the browser that opens. If I create a shortcut to that same address, it doesnt work.
This is definately not an IP issue
I suspect that this is a registry issue, perhaps in the way that the browser deals with http requests, but I am not sure where to go from here.
Just so you know:
Antivirus is up to date and the system has been scanned
Spyware has been detected/deleted
OS is XP pro. All Windows updates done
IE 6 has been removed and reinstalled
I did an installation repair with the XP pro disk
I did an in-place upgrage witht he XP disk
I restored the TCP/IP stack to it's initial state
Thanks in advance for your input
