Dear MVPs:

Is there a way I can have a text box appear when I click a particular item
on the screen?

And another textbox when another item is clicked? Or mouse over? Much like
screen tips but bigger and with formatting.

Thanks.

I'm not a MVP, but let me give a hint, though ;-)

Which version of PowerPoint are you using? It should be easily achieved
using trigger animations of PPT 2002/xp. If you are using an older version,
you'll have to create different slides and switch between them with
hyperlinks.

Come back here, if you need more detailed information.

Kind regards,

Vincent,
I was wondering if you have found a way to do this! I too need
something like this and I not having much luck! Please let me know.

Hi Mary,

This solution may or may not work, depending on how many boxes you need.

EXAMPLE:
On the slide their are 4 boxes. Visually, when you click a box text appears
on the bottom of the screen. When you click a different box, different text
appears at the bottom of the screen.

SOLUTION:
Slide show is 5 slides. Slide one has the four boxes and no text. Slide two
has box #1 filled in a different color and a text box at the bottom of the
slide with the box #1 description. Slide two has box #2 in a different color
and its text at the bottom. Slide 3 = box 3 and its text, slide 4 = box 4
and its text.

ACTION:
- Create slide 1 with the 4 boxes in the position you want.
- Add slides 2,3,4,5 and on each add the text box, but not the boxes.
- Go into SLIDE SHOW and CUSTOM SHOWS. Create 4 custom shows, one for each
slide (2,3,4,5).
- On slide 1, click on box #1, click on SLIDE SHOW on the top menu bar and
select ACTION SETTINGS.
- In the ACTION SETTINGS dialog click HYPERLINK TO and in the drop down
choose CUSTOM SHOW
- In the CUSTOM SHOW dialog check the SHOW AND RETURN (very important!) box
and select the custom show that goes with slide 2.
- Repeat for boxes 2-4.
- Select all four boxes, copy and paste them onto slides 2,3,4,5
- On each slide, change the fill color of that slides box (ie. on slide 2,
change the fill color box #1 to 'highlight' it)
- HIDE slides 2,3,4,5
- Run the presentation.

Let me know if that works out.

Hi Mary,

unfortunately you did not mention the PowerPoint version you are using. In
PowerPoint 2002/xp you will be able to do this with a "trigger" animation.
Have a look at the action settings of the animations. You will be able not
only to start animations one after the other, but also by clicking on
certain objects (triggers).

Reading your other posting in this newsgroup, I assume that you want to deal
with a large quantity of text boxes, so you might have to find a suitable
VBA routine to automate this.

Come back, if you need more information/detailed "How to".

Kind regards,
Ute
