Interactive software installation across network

Is there a way to install an executable file (say WS_FTP.exe) on a
networked computer after copying it to the network share? For example,
if I am on the same network (192.168.1.x) with this computer, and I
have copied over WS_FTP.exe to the networked computer's share, is there
a way to initiate the installation of WS_FTP.exe on that networked
computer rather than mine?

The default behavior of course, when double-clicking an install file
across the network is to install the software on the computer from
which you double-clicked the file.

What further complicates this issue is the existance of dialog pop-up
boxes asking "Are you sure you want to install?" and the like. Is
there any way to initiate the installation on the remote computer while
responding to the pop-up dialogue boxes?

I've looked into doing this via a script, though I can't find much on
how to do this on the Internet.

While you can remotely install software in a domain environment I am
not sure how to perform an unattended installation of WSFTP. If this if
for one machine only you could install some sort of remote control
software on the machine. I use Real VNC to directly connect to the
console of my remote servers. You do however have to install software
on the machine you want to administer remotely. If you do not have
physical access to the machine Dameware makes a product called Mini
remote Control. You can push the client out to the remote machine and
then start remotely controlling it. There is no need to have physical
access to the machine using this method.

If this doesnt meet your requirements let me know.

psg,

Yes, the Dameware product you mention does sound like the solution I'm
looking for. I read the details on Dameware's Web site. I still don't
fully understand how it "pushes" itself to a machine, if it does this,
then that eliminates the need to remotely interact with dialog prompts
from software installation, though, from the sound of it, I would have
that functionality as well.

I'll give this a try. Thanks a lot!
