interaction with Norton

Are there any known potential un-anticipated interactions
with Norton (and vice versa)?

I started using MS AntiSpyware recently. Have just
joined this forum (and others), searching for the
following answer. Do other people sometimes have an
issue with Norton? Or is it just me?

Just like another previous user, I also do not have SP2
installed, as yet. When doing the "homework" on it, I
have found it might be too dangerous (might destroy my
entire system rendering it un-useable). The security
benefits are also perhaps not quite as touted (given that
I am also running):

Norton:

Internet Security 2005 8.0.2.5

Anti Virus 11.0.9.16

Anti Spam

And STOPzilla

When I run the MS AntiSpyware SCAN, it finds some items.

When I tell it to delete / fix the items, NORTON steps in
with:

Virus Alert - High Risk! Norton detected
Bloodhound.Exploit.6.
Unable to Repair.
Access to Cleaner.log was denied.

I suspect Norton is preventing the Microsoft software
from doing what in needs to.

Do other people have an issue with Norton? Or is it just
me?

Thanks

I think you might want to re-do your homework. SP2 has been installed on
millions of systems without destroying them.

There have been some interactions noted where a Norton installation causes
some loss of visible functionality within Microsoft Antispyware. We now
have a fix for this issue, but it doesn't resemble what you are seeing.

I'd suggest restarting your system in safe mode and scanning with both
Norton and Microsoft Antispyware. I'd do separate scans, and do the
antivirus one first, then disable real-time protection in the antivirus, and
do a Microsoft Antispyware scan.

I haven't seen this kind of interaction before, and have worked on
half-a-dozen machines or so where I did simultaneous antivirus and
antispyware scans, some with Nav 2004, and some with nav 2005, and didn't
see any problems.

NIS 2005 causes problems for a lot of people for a lot of reasons.

It's hit or miss though and maybe the service pack update for VB6 could fix
all these particular problems. Folks here are just now finding that the VB6
sp udates are fixing several problems.

If you are prepared for the worst, give it a go!

I just installed MS Antispyware and Norton asked whether I
should block GIANT Antispyware.exe from connecting to the
Internet. Is GIANT a MS application or is it spyware
that is trying to avoid MS
antispyware? Thanks
