After having gone to MS's hardware site to download the latest version of
Intellipoint for my Wireless Laser Mouse 6000v2, I attempted to install it.
All seemed to go smoothly, until an error window appeared, making reference
to kernel32.dll

Below are the results from Event Viewer:

Application Error
8/6/2009
9:40:14 AM

Faulting application setupstb.exe, version 7.0.260.0, faulting module
kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5781, fault address 0x00012afb.

Product: Microsoft IntelliPoint 7.0 -- Installation completed successfully.

The installed program appears to be the most current version (7.0), but I am
a bit confused as to why I'm seeing contradictory information in regards to
its installation.

Is it anything to worry about? Should I attempt to re-install 7.0?

thanks in advance.

Did you have a 3rd-party firewall such as Zone Alarm running during the
installation? Quite often they will interfere. If all the options in
Intellipoint work OK, I wouldn't worry about it. If it's not right,
uninstall it, turn your firewall off (pulling your internet connection
first), then reinstall Intellipoint.

The built-in XP firewall was what's installed here. It hadn't been disabled
during the install.

Since everything appears to be functioning normally with the updated
version, I'm of the same opinion: leave well enough alone.

Thanks, Tom.

kernal32.dll is a "dynamic link library" for Windows XP (Windows
version 5.1xxxxx) so the info appears to be correct.
