Intellimouse locking computer up

I've been using a Microsoft Intellimouse Optical for a couple years and just
outta the blue the other night the mouse starts working hit and miss. I
attempted a re-boot, it gives me the screen where I select re-start and
after a few seconds I get a box saying point32.exe will not close or
something. I haven't made any changes in a while other than running windows
update. I installed the mouse on another computer and it works fine, I put a
cheapy mouse on the original computer and it works fine but using the
Intellimouse on it, it locks up. Any ideas? Thanks

Buy a new mouse............. Had this prob and it was the chip in the mouse !!

I re-installed it and nothing but ended up going and getting a new mouse.
Kensington Optical Elite, its very similair to the Intellimouse and was only
$20. Haven't had any problems since so the Intellimouse must have just died.
