My wired intellimouse explorer occasionally hangs up for a second or two
while the cursor moves across the screen. I think the issue is the computer
itself, as if it has to think every now and then.

The problem makes it hard to play some games, as I'm unable to turn or look
up for a few seconds every now and then.

Any help would be appreciated.

You need to find out what is running in the background.

1. Make sure the computer is virus/malware-free:

2. See "Slow or Sluggish Computer":

Did you recently replace the mouse or upgrade to version 5.5 of the drivers?
