Intel xScale family versus Motorola PowerPC

Hi there,

Does anybody know the pros and cons of Intel xScale family and Motorola
PowerPC in general? Did anybody compare these 2 families before?

Any info or link will be appreciated.

An xScale is an ARM processor, while the Moterola is PowerPC. They are
completely different architectures, with a completely different aim:
xScale aims for mobility and low power usage, while PowerPC just tries
to be powerful.

xScale is used in PDA's and PowerPC (G4) is used in desktops and laptops
from Apple. Since there is almost no software that runs on both, a
direct comparirison is not only quite useless, its also not easy.

Some pro's and cons:
xScale: Low power, even lower power on idle, faster than some other ARM
processors. Small.

Moterola PPC: A lot faster than xScale, though slower (but again: less
power consuming) than IBM's G5 is these days.
