Hey
does anyone think that getting xp 64 bit would improve
the windows performance of my P4 2.8 GHz w/ HT on my
Intel 865PERL motherboard- i was wondering because of the
dual processor- likeness the HT produces

windows xp pro runs kinda slow sometimes... it doesn't
feel like a stable... snap fast system at all

any ideas?

Thanks

First, you can't buy the 64 bit version of XP alone, and if you could it
wouldn't run on your system.

1) You cannot purchase XP Pro 64 off the shelf - it is available OEM
only.

2) Dual processor systems are *NOT* 64-bit - it is one system with 2
32-bit processors. Just because there are two lots of 32 you don't multiply
it.

3) Whatever problems you're having they're not caused by the OS. As Steve
says, XP 64 won't even install on your system as you do not have the
requisite hardware. A 64-bit Intel CPU is well over £1,000.

XP 64 bit only runs on Itanium processors. Each processor costs more than
the price of your current PC.

To speed up your system: add more RAM and usually using reliable name-brand
memory modules. Run anti-virus/anti-spyware/anti-popup/anti-spam software
often helps!

Y.

No. The 64 bit edition requires an Intel Itanium 64 bit processor. It
does not work with 32 bit CPUs like yours at all
