The onboard LAN was working until today, then whilst using
PowerDVD I got to a blue screen and when I rebooted the
driver was no longer installed. I have tried
uninstalling\reinstalling the driver & windows but nothing
works. I had a similar problem a few weeks ago with
another computer (also running win2k but with a realtek
based PCI LAN card) and that problem was eventualy solved
by removing the card, booting to windows, shutting down &
re-inserting the card. I can't repeat this last step as
the Intel Pro is onboard (if I disable it in the bios
windows reports it cannot find the boot drive). I am
using a Gigabyte 8I875 Ultra (Intel 875P chipset) & P4 2.8
@ 800 FSB. I was running SP3. Also the harddrive is on
the on board RAID channel, but not in an array, and using
a realtek based PCI card will work, I just can't get the
onboard to go, windows won't let me install the drivers
(these drivers were not written for your device), and yes
I have got the latest drivers etc, but windows wont let me
install them. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Try uninstalling the network adapter from Device Manager, restart the
computer, and let Windows detect the card upon the restart.
