hiya I got a laptop the speed is pretty quick
actually quite suprised at how fast it is

just looked on the specs it comes up as a Intel M 1.86ghz
ne ideas how was this is?

ie is the clock speed really this much ghz or more?

Im not clear on this sorta thing from what I understand Intel M works differently somehow prehaps im wrong

i just looked on google but does Intel M 1.86 really mean 1.86ghz?
because tbh this intel m is def outperforming my xp2200 which is 1.8ghz and thats abt the same!!!

its like this

Intel M 1.86 with 1gb

vs

xp2200 with 1.5gb

i think the latter is not as fast!!! well so i find!

Well what are you using the laptop for psd99? surfing the net? downloads? better to find an ideal clock speed on the laptop to suit your needs rather than paying for something you dont need :)

well guys im not gona buy it i just got it for a few days

http://reviews.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/notebooks/0,39023985,39185037,00.htm

its the same model as above link
excpet its intel m 1.86 and 1gb ddr ram

i am looking to buy a laptop like this i just wanted to know the clock speed is there a way to work this out?

i thght that mobile m does not mean its 1.86ghz i thght there was a way to work this out and was hoping someone on here knew

thanks

the clock speed is 1.86Ghz and its a pentium mobile, laptops dont really get above 2 maybe 2.2Ghz to conserve power

cool thanks its bloody quick i tell ya

love the idea of a laptop because all this week been sitting in my back garden in this wonderful weather surfing the net!

love the mobility!

and thank god for wireless!

pentium Ms are what there should have been instead of pentium 4s

pentium Ms are actually tweaked pentium 3s

what a waste of time

potguy,

Pentium M's are NOT tweaked Pentium 3! Wherever you got that idea from.

Pentium M performance is linked to the way it deals with set of instructions, the clock cycle of the Pentium M is 2 where as for the Pentium 4 it is 3, making the Pentium M 50% faster. In other words what Pentium M will do in 2 seconds Pentium 4 will do in 3 seconds. The idea behind this philosophy is conserving energy.

A 2Ghz Pentium M is equal to 3Ghz Pentium 4.

I have the 2Ghz Pentium M in my IBM laptop with a gig of DDR2 Ram, it is very much comparable to 3 GHz desktop rig with 1 gig of ram.

Now you can do a bit more research if you like on clock cycles.

Hope this helps :)

i dont know enough about architecture to argue :P

anyone i wouldnt argue with you because you are always right

all i know is that the israeli intel people that made the pentium m did so by completely scrapping the p4 architectue - netburst and the like - and based it around the ideas of the p3

or something

I DONT KNOW DONT KILL ME

Now look what you did, you leave no room for me to make mistakes :D

Honestly I also did not know the difference between the two until I bought a centrino laptop with Pentium M cpu three years back and went through a lot of literature from Intel. That is when I had read about the clock cycles. ;)
