Intel E CPU

Can someone give me some general info on these new "E" CPUs that intel have
brought out.

1) Why are they cheaper for the same speed with all the same specs?

2) Are they still called prescott?

3) Do you need a motherboard that supports it or will a board that takes,
say, a 2.8GHz 800fsb prescott be ok?

As usual, many thanks in advance.

The "E" units are Prescotts; E is Intel's designation for them to
differentiate them from Northwood's. The E's are selling for less because
Intel is trying to get people to switch to them from Northwoods. But
there's a problem: The E's run about 30% HOTTER than an equivalent speed
Northwood, and are no faster in calculations. So people are resisting
getting them.

Thanks Dave, will they work in a motherboard designed for prescott or does
the motherboard need to be designed for the E cpu?

I found the answer, these new 775 chips are still prescott except that the
pins are on the mobo instead of the chip. The chip I had was a standard
PGA-478 P4.
