Hi,
I have an Intel DG965RY motherboard that insists on running it's 'AUX FAN' at
4200 RPM which sounds like a jet aircraft taking off. It runs the outlet fan
at a respectable 3200 RPM, which is nice and quiet. Either I'm too damn
stupid to figure out how to control the fan speed on this mobo or there is no
way to do it. I've poked around in the BIOS and the Intel Desktop Utilities
program that monitors the fan, but didn't get anywhere.
The 'Outlet FAN' makes an annoying but barely audible vwoom vwoom noise. I've
tried a different fan that sounds fine in a different mobo, so I don't think
it's a bearing issue, but I think this damn mobo is modulating the fan speed
in a slightly oddball manner.
So, did I miss something, or is an external fan controller the way to go?
Also, can someone recommend a decent fan controller that fits a 3.5" bay and
has whatever connectors are needed to run the fans, but also provide the RPM
signal to the mobo so I can monitor what's going on? [I have a Vantec Nexus
that would almost fit the bill, but doesn't provide RPM monitoring to the
mobo]
Thanks
