Is this going to be the next big thing? Been reading a lot of reviews on it and it's meant to smash all the AMD processors.

Its meant to be much faster than anything else and use a lot less power. Might be a lot more expensive knowing Intel.

Dual core is the big thing now, next it will be quad core in your local pc shop early next year.
And did you know it's been designed with WCG Crunchers in mind, bet you didn't know that.;)

Note: the last sentence may be slightly made up!

Who me?

I have no need for one ... but as my present MB will take an AMD I may, when the price drops, and it will, just go get one for WCG. :thumb:

;)

It does look as if Intel have finally got something right with their new Conroe CPU's.

If I were to upgrade right now, it really would be a difficult choice.

Looks like right at this moment, Intel give the best bang for the buck, as our colonial cousins are wont to say ;)

But, it would really go against the grain to buy Intel.

There again, if something is good, works better and is cheaper than the opposition, then why not?

I just hope the competition lowers AM2 prices.

The mobo's required to run these new processors are quite expensive though... and you will likely need to buy one as well as the processor.... then that may incur the need to buy new memory.... :(

the CPU prices are about the same as AMD's but the motherboards are more than the difference you'd save by getting a core duo over an AMD X2

478 mobo

hi folks i,m in the process of upgrading my desktop pc
can anyone tell me if my asus p4 gplx mobo combined with ct-479 will be compatible with these cpu,s (or will the chipset make it a pointless execise) also do these require any special psu,s

478 mobo

hi christopher am i wrong in thinking these also come as 479 mobile cpu,s
asus supply an adapter to change 478-479 i was going down that road but i fear the older 915 chipset will limit the cpu choice
cheers ali
